On Prayer and Waiting on God

First, a praise: We praise God for what He is doing in our church! We praise God for the dynamic and growing and vibrant youth and family ministry. We praise God for the work He is beginning in our children's ministry with children and parents. We also praise God for the people He is bringing, the packed sanctuary on Sundays and the growing number of people attending Saturday services. We praise God for the amazing things happening on Wednesday nights: AWANA, youth and parents, small groups, college/career, adult prayer and discipleship....God is doing WONDERFUL things! The beautiful thing about ALL of these praises is we can see a direct relationship between staying in prayer and what God is doing as He answers prayer and shapes things the way HE wants things shaped. You, the people are to be commended for how you are praying, walking by faith, and for staying in prayer and understanding that is our process.

We stand at the crossroads in many ways. Our 'problems' are GOOD problems. We need more space. We will likely need a third service soon, and God is bringing people who are hungry for Him, His Word, for Truth, and He is bringing people who consistently say 'they felt led to come to Stonebridge,' and many of them are wrestling with the claims of the Gospel. Again-these are GOOD 'problems!'

The challenge for any church is what to do when at the crossroads of choice. 'How do we move forward?' 'What is the best direction to take in the short and long -term,' and so on. 'How do we best organize around what God is doing?'

Old patterns in churches across America for some time were to look at 'good problems'  (or bad problems!) and to come up with some solution and plan, rush it through and ask God to bless it.

What God has been doing in our church is teaching all of us to seek Him first in everything, to ask of Him, to search His Word, and to wait on Him for clarity. This is biblical, by the way. It is what we see (and admire) in the saints of old. Praying and waiting on God. Asking God for wisdom. Moving forward in faith even while waiting, loving God and trusting Him, loving one another and pursuing Him in the Word and prayer.

And this is what we are doing. God has been unbelievably Good to us and has been profoundly faithful. He is faithful, after all....

That doesn't mean that waiting on Him is always easy. We live in an instant society where things should happen immediately. We have a time-frame of sorts that we try to put God on, and we get frustrated if He doensn't respond to us in the time and way we see fit! And, to make things stranger still, we are prone to put ourselves at the center of things, expecting God to provide solutions that we approve of (and benefit us, personally).

I rejoice that God has given me the privilege of being among the people of Stonebridge. I've not been in a fellowship like this before, where God's people are pursuing Him, waiting on Him, trusting Him, praying and diving into the Word as this community is. I praise God for you!

So, as we continue to move forward in faith, may we continue to stir one another on to good deeds, guard the unity of the body by loving deeply, stay committed to the Truth of God's Word, and stay in prayer, waiting on God to do what HE wants to do. That is faith.

God is going to give us great wisdom and show us great things as we wait on Him. We stand at the crossroads, but God is God. We need not fear nor be anxious! He is Good.

Looking forward to seeing what He has for us in the months ahead! You are loved!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor
